For Employers

Yes. If an employee opts in, they do so for a 90 day period. After 90 days they can opt out.

SmartWage has a cash float to provide the advances directly to employees over the course of the month. At the end of the month, we provide reconciliations and invoices to collect the funds advances from you. 

We charge a service fee per transaction. This fee is a base fee of R5 plus 2.95% of your transaction amount.  This is payable by the employer or employee.

80% of South African employees can’t make it to the month end without taking on some form of debt. We solve this problem.

  1. We are 10 times cheaper than any payday lender on the market.
  2. We have a responsibility limit of 25%, meaning employees can only access up to 25% of what they have already earned.
  3. We offer a comprehensive financial education solution at no cost to employees. 

SmartWage is a security blanket for employees to start taking control of their finances and avoid high interest lenders.

We have an already-built API integration for Sage 300 and other payroll providers (Payspace etc), meaning we can push and pull data automatically. We also provide .csv files at cut-off to manually upload and reconcile if integration is not desired (i.e. one upload per payroll cycle to net-settle employees).

We are fully POPI compliant. We follow strict data security protocols and we are only allowed to use employee data for the purpose it was intended for, which is to make payments of salaries.

For Employees

Once an employee has requested an advance, they will be paid into their bank account within 1  business day. 

No. SmartWage gives employees access to the pay that they have earned in their current pay cycle. It is not a loan, it is just access to their own money, before payday.

No. The money will only be paid into the bank account their employer pays your monthly salary into.

Employee advance requests made after 11:30am on a Friday, and any requests made on the weekend will only be paid on Monday. 

All requests made on a public holiday will only be paid the next working day.

An employee can Whatsapp the SmartWage Advance line from the number they’re changing to and it will ask them to confirm their ID Number and bank account details. Once you have done so, their number will change automatically.
